This summer, Chris and I got together with some friends and former co-workers of mine and decided to have a weekly game night. We figured Hump Day would be the best, a mid-week pick-me-up for everyone. And we decided to focus mainly on board games; kickin’ it old school.
Bryan contributes an AWESOME game that we all love called Carcassonne. It is a tile game, and involves building cities, roads and fields out of the tiles you randomly draw. Little bit of skill, little bit of luck…everyone is good at this game, and our scores often come out VERY close.
Chris and I bought a game at The Game Preserve called Ticket to Ride based on a recommendation of a fellow shopper. This game is a combination board game and card game. You play cards to build routes and mark your progress on the map with little colored trains. We have also come to love this game, both in its original Märklin version and the newer U.S. version. The former features a map of Germany and an added component: passengers who ride along your routes and collect points along the way.
I can’t believe I’m rambling about board games, but we have honestly enjoyed this pasttime and recommend that other people start up a game night with a few friends or family members! Besides board games, we also like the occassional video game or party game…I’m sure I’ll write more about those later.
So, in conclusion, start a GAME NIGHT! You will look forward to it every week, without fail. Oh, and make sure the wine is flowing…seems to make the games that much more interesting, hahaha.
