Last Sunday, our neighborhood got together for a BBQ/Ice Cream Social on our street. Before I give you the details of this fun day, I have to provide some background…
A few months ago, Chris was searching around on the internet (as he usually does) and came across a contest from Edy’s Ice Cream. Edy’s was giving away 1,000 neighborhood ice cream parties to the entrants with the best essay about why their neighborhood should win. Chris, as president of our neighborhood association, took it upon himself to write a lovely essay about how we would like to meet, get to know and spend time with our neighbors. If you haven’t guessed what happens next…Chris won an Edy’s ice cream party!
Edy’s shipped the ice cream to us in dry ice (oooo, that was fun to play with), and Chris and I stored it in our chest freezer until the party. We decided to have a BBQ in addition to an ice cream party, and we invited all of our neighbors to bring a side dish to go with the burgers and hot dogs.
The turnout was great! We had about 50 people, including lots of kiddos playing ball. Chris displayed his master grilling, and the side dishes and desserts were AMAZING! And of course, we had LOTS of Edy’s ice cream!
This was the kind of event that really makes a neighborhood a great place to live. Thanks to all of our fabulous neighbors for making the ice cream social possible!
