Howdy folks! We just migrated to a new website and it’s been crazy busy getting everything put into place. We know that some of our older blog posts are missing and others have missing pictures (boo, hiss)… but we’re working on it… I promise. Stay tuned…

What happens when you combine a luxury cabin, 20 people, snow and lots of booze?  The First Annual Winter Snow Break in Wisconsin!

Thanks to our friend, Beth, who must have been a travel agent in another life, we had a sweet posh cabin in the middle of Nowhere, Wisconsin.  Besides the lack of cell signal, the location was GREAT!  We were loud and crazy every night and nobody called the cops…excellent!

The group was quite a mish-mash of people…some of our close friends along with a lot of Mike and Beth’s co-workers from Chicago.  Even though we didn’t all know each other, a few beers took care of the inhibitions, and some serious partying ensued.

Some people chose to ski or play in the snow.  I, however, spent my time lounging around this incredible cabin, drinking and taking looooooong showers in the fabulous steam shower.

Even though I really hate winter, I have to say that the fireplaces and alcohol kept me warm, and I would totally do this again next year…what a blast!

So, I recently had a very intersting and wonderful experience throwing a baby shower for my sister-in-law, Lisa.  I have never planned a baby shower before, nor have I ever ATTENDED a baby shower, so I knew that I was in for a lot of researching and hard work.

First of all, do you realize how many baby websites there are out there?  I had no idea how many baby names, baby games and baby tips you could find on the internet.  It was all a bit overwhelming for me, especially because it seems like everything for baby showers is so TACKY.

Luckily, my sister-in-law, Amy, is a great cook, so I knew the food would be taken care of…and it was.  Beautiful quiches and fruit salad accompanied by to-die-for caramel muffins made by my mother-in-law, Carol, and of course BETTY CAKE!

Overall, the shower was a huge success…everyone had a great time, and John and Lisa went home with a ton of great loot!  It was a fun experience, but needless to say, I’m baby-ed out for a while. :)

It’s cold and snowing.  Luckily, I love winter :)
We’ve got some votive candles on our patio table that filled with water and have frozen and are now accumulating snow… kinda neat-o if you ask me.

Frozen Votives

We love doing engagement sessions because it gives us an opportunity to get to know the couple and work with them before a wedding.  It sounds silly but it really adds up to the end result of better wedding photos.

Before Audrey and I got married we realized that we hardly had any photographs of us together without a drink in our hands or at some random party or bar.  That’s another reason why we love doing engagement sessions - giving couples photos that are “nice” and are the type you’d be happy having sit on your dresser without a plastic cup of beer in your hands.

So, the first couple that send us an aweful photo with some sort of cup/beer/drink in their hands will win a free engagement session.  Free.  Yep, it’s true, good things DO happen in this world.  E-mail your photos to info@olryphotography.com with a mention in the subject that you need an engagment session.
