Our Commitment ::
We are committed to the preservation of our environment through a combination of resource conservation and an awareness of our impact on the world. Following are practices that are in place to ensure our footprint is tiny. We vow to regularly review and improve upon our policies to ensure sustainability.
Energy Conservation ::
- Power 100% of home and business with clean renewable energy sources (including wind, solar and geothermal or biomass generation)1
- Use rechargeable batteries for all equipment
- Turn off or unplug all equipment and chargers that are not in use
- Combine errands and car trips to reduce fuel usage
- Own only one vehicle and use public transportation when possible
- Purchase energy efficient equipment and appliances that are built to last
- Use energy efficient lighting and dimmers
- Regulate heating and cooling with a programmable thermostat
- Equip entrances with weather stripping to reduce heat loss
Waste Reduction ::
- Share and proof photos online instead of printing proofs
- Reuse equipment as long as possible, then donate, sell, recycle or properly dispose of it
- Create books to showcase many photos, eliminating the need to print them all
- Reuse excess prints for client samples and marketing materials
- Print only necessary documents and print them double-sided or on scratch paper
- Print using special ink sticks with recyclable packaging that produces minimal waste (no toner or ink cartridges)
- Reuse paper, cardboard and packing materials
- Recycle everything including paper, cardboard, glass, metal, plastic and Styrofoam
- Compost organic items such as food scraps, paper plates and yard waste
- Send communications using digital rather than print-based means (telephone or e-mail before faxes or mailed copies)
Respect for Environment & Resources ::
- Purchase supplies that are either recycled, recyclable or both
- Select vendors that are also committed to preserving the environment
- Offer albums which are specially handcrafted with environmentally friendly cover boards, glue, paper, inks, book cloth and leathers2
- Operate out of our home with no daily commute or need to maintain a separate office space
- Mitigate necessary travel by donating to environmental projects and purchasing carbon offsets
- Embrace the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” philosophy in all aspects of our lives and business3
- Clean using biodegradable and non-toxic agents or steam (chemical-free)
- Purchase food including veggies, meat and dairy which are sourced locally whenever possible
- Support local businesses if possible
- Associate with and volunteer for organizations such as Greener Photography, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and Arbor Day Foundation4-6
